Lignofuels 2024

Date: 7th February 2024 - 8th February 2024 Location: Helsinki - Finland

ACI is pleased to be hosting 13th Annual Lignofuels Conference on 7th & 8th February 2024 in Helsinki, Finland.

Building on the success of Lignofuels 2023 which brought 150+ senior level industry professionals to Helsinki in February 2023, we are delighted to be returning to Finland for the 5th consecutive year for the 2024 edition of the conference. It will once again bring together key lignofuels and advanced biofuels and materials stakeholders to join our forum discussions and networking, including leaders from advanced generation biofuels companies from across the globe represented by Technical, Strategic and Business Development Executives from First and Advanced Generation Biofuels Producers, Oil Refiners, Process Technology Providers, Enzyme Developers, Engineering Firms and Agribusiness as well as Financiers, Investors, Policy & Regulators, Automotive & Aviation Industries, Consultants, Traders & Brokers and Chemical Companies.

Exclusive Site Visit to Fintoil’s Hamina-Kotka Biorefinery:

During the afternoon of Tuesday,  6th February 2024, a day prior to the conference, a limited number of conference delegates will have the unique opportunity to visit Fintoil’s Crude Tall Oil (CTO) Biorefinery in the port of Hamina-Kotka.

Fintoil’s cutting-edge CTO biorefinery’s production process is based on a fractionation process, where the raw material is distilled into its component parts or fractions by using thermal energy and vacuum. Production at the biorefinery started in the autumn of 2022. Fintoil’s biorefinery utilizes intelligent tall oil fractionation technology NEXPINUS™ licensed by Neste’s Engineering Solutions (NES). The modern refinery’s input capacity is 200,000 tons of crude tall oil, making Fintoil the third largest crude tall oil refiner in the world. The plant was also designed with the possibility of increasing the input capacity in the future.

There is no extra charge to join the site visit, although the number of places is limited and allocated to the conference delegates on a first-come first-served basis. Therefore, we would strongly recommend you to book your place early enough to avoid disappointment.

During the afternoon of Tuesday, February 6, 2024, a day prior to the conference, a limited number of conference delegates will have the unique opportunity to visit Fintoil’s Crude Tall Oil (CTO) Biorefinery in the port of Hamina-Kotka.

Fintoil‘s cutting-edge CTO biorefinery’s production process is based on a fractionation process, where the raw material is distilled into its component parts or fractions by using thermal energy and vacuum.

Production at the biorefinery started in the autumn of 2022. The modern refinery’s input capacity is 200,000 tons of crude tall oil, making Fintoil the third largest crude tall oil refiner in the world. The plant was also designed with the possibility of increasing the input capacity in the future.

Fintoil’s biorefinery utilizes intelligent tall oil fractionation technology NEXPINUS™ licensed by Neste’s Engineering Solutions (NES). Steeper Energy developed a hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) technology suite that has now been proven through a pilot phase and is in the process of being proven in a demonstration-scale facility in Norway. Steeper’s technology confirms an economic pathway for the production of biofuels such as marine bunker fuel, heating oil, renewable diesel, and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from a wide range of biowaste feedstocks. Our focus has been on lignocellulosic materials, but other streams include the biogenic portions of MSW, animal waste, and agricultural wastes among others. Steeper’s Calgary-based Advanced Biofuels Center (ABC), a lab-scale refinery, was commissioned in late 2021. ABC is optimizing Steeper’s Hydrofaction® Oil upgrading pathways to advanced biofuels with a particular focus on maximizing yields of finished fuels. Steeper holds over 200 patents either obtained or pending in 25 patent families and is advancing towards the commercialization of its technology in prospective plant projects around the world.
