The Bioenergy Association of Finland (Bioenergia)  is the guardian of the interests of more than three hundred member organizations and individual members. As the EU and Finland move towards carbon neutrality, we want to develop the bioenergy sector so that Finland has the best conditions in the world to produce sustainable and even carbon-negative products based on biomass. In our operations, we strive for the highest possible value added and exports, and we support energy self-sufficiency, security of energy supply and supply, employment and the regional economy. We work together with our members as part of a bio- and circular economy where energy is recovered from by-products.

EUREC, the Association of Renewable Energy Research Centers, promotes European research and education activities for the renewable energy sector, and supports the development of innovative technologies to enable the transition to a sustainable energy system. The organisation was founded in 1991 as European Economic Interest Grouping (E.E.I.G.).

EUREC’s members are prominent research and development (R&D) groups spread across Europe, operating in all renewable energy technologies. Our members also conduct research into supporting technologies such as energy efficiency, storage, distribution and integration, and undertake studies to evaluate the social and economic aspects surrounding renewable energy.

Apart from work in policy development and education and training (through the European Masters programmes), EUREC is involved – to varying levels from communication to coordination or advisory – in numerous European co-funded projects centred on renewable technologies. These technologies revolve around a wide array of technologies (wind, biomass, small hydro, marine, geothermal, photovoltaics, solar thermal electricity, and solar thermal heating and cooling).

EUREC is a partner of the European Technology and Innovation Platform Bioenergy – Support of Renewable Fuels and Advanced Bioenergy Stakeholders (ETIP-B2022-2025) project that aims at triggering collaborative efforts of stakeholders from research to innovation to implementation in the field of renewable fuels and bioenergy. The ETIP Bioenergy aims to actively engage with stakeholders and civil society, link their needs to policy making of the European Union and Member States, and provide advice to industry.

DBG Bio Energy is an Amsterdam-based biotechnology scale up, founded in response to the urgency of tackling challenges of the paper industry and speeding up the energy transition. Pressing climate change issues and mounting international pressure on the paper industry regarding their waste processing, push us to find new solutions. This, mainly because most of their waste is currently being incinerated or landfilled. Both of which are not very environmentally friendly methods for a wet, organic residual waste.

DBG Bio Energy established an innovative approach to deal with this specific industrial waste stream. By mimicking the regenerative cycle of nature in which waste is reused, we developed a patented enzyme technology to upcycle paper sludge into BioLNG, green fertlisers and Biogenic CO2.

BioLNG is a low carbon fuel that powers heavy transport and ships, hence accelerating the energy transition and energy self-sufficiency. Green fertilisers are a better alternative to synthetic fertilisers, because of their superior quality and regenerative properties. We liquify the leftover CO2 to avoid emissions and since it is biogenic and food-grade, it can be used for making e-fuels, as well as other applications in food and other industries. This way, we not only work towards Zero Waste, but make other industries more sustainable as well.
