During the Tuesday afternoon prior to the conference, on the 2nd of November, a limited number of conference delegates will receive the unique opportunity to visit the KIWI AG e-gas Plant in Werlte, Germany.

This plant produces synthetic methane from water and CO2. The amount of CO2 emitted by the car is precisely the amount bound during the production of the fuel. Audi uses biomethane from residual materials such as straw and green waste, in addition to the quantities of synthetic methane, to ensure Audi e-gas can be supplied comprehensively.

There is no extra charge to join a site visit, although places are limited and allocated to conference delegates on a first come first served basis. Therefore we should strongly suggest to book your place early to avoid disappointment.

Johnson Matthey (JM) is a global leader in sustainable technologies applying cutting-edge science and scientific expertise to enable cleaner air, improved health and more efficient use of our planet’s natural resources.  Johnson Matthey creates value-based solutions for our customers while making a real difference to the world around us.

The world is calling out for sustainable manufacturing and new ways to produce the chemicals and fuels we need. Our expertise in the generation, purification and chemical modification of syngas opens the door to renewable feedstocks, efficient manufacturing, and low carbon technologies.

JM technology is used to turn gasified feedstocks, syngas, into a wide range of useful materials such as ammonia, methanol, methane and waxes.  This syngas traditionally comes from coal or natural gas, but now things like municipal solid waste or renewable biomass can be used to make syngas.

Through our collaboration with bp, we introduced a process based on Fischer Tropsch (FT) technology to economically convert synthesis gas generated from such biomass feedstocks into waxes suitable to produce sustainable diesel and aviation fuel.

Its modular design enables low risk scale-up and simple operation, while the catalyst gives high productivity and selectivity. The unique design of stacked catalyst carriers cleverly manages heat transfer and pressure drop. Compared with conventional fixed bed tubular reactors, the new system reduces capital expenditure by around 50% and enables the FT process to be economically scaled down to a size suitable for waste and / or biomass gasification. When combined with our reverse water gas shift technology it enables fuels to be produced from carbon dioxide and hydrogen providing a route to e-fuels.

eFuel-Today is all about E-Fuels and talks directly to consumers about the positive impact by fossil-free and sustainable fuels in reducing CO2 emissions. The consumer-focused storytelling approach is what makes EFTD stand out. The initiative eFuel-Today was founded by the MEW and its members in January 2021. It quickly became the world’s leading communication platform for E-Fuels with over 2 million users reached so far. Frequently published videos and a high roll-out of editorial articles make eFuel-Today a fast moving, one of its kind storytelling machine. We truly believe that when customers have access to reliable, well curated and highly entertaining content about climate-neutral E-Fuels, the pressure on politics and regulations increases so that we have a fair chance to reach our climate goals.

The eFuel Alliance is a stakeholder initiative committed to promoting the political and social acceptance of eFuels and to securing their regulatory approval. We represent more than 110 companies along the value chain of eFuel production. We stand for fair competition and a level-playing field for all relevant emission reduction solutions. We are clearly committed to more  climate protection and aim to win broader recognition of the significant contribution eFuels can make in the drive for sustainability and climate protection. Our goal is to facilitate the industrial production and widespread use of carbon neutral fuels made from renewable energy sources.

Hamburg Aviation is the aviation industry cluster for the Hamburg Metropolitan Region – one of the world’s most important locations in the civil aviation industry.

In total, more than 40,000 highly qualified specialists here are working on the future of aviation.
Their core competencies cover the complete life cycle of an aircraft, from the design, manufacture and fitting out, to the global system of air transportation, maintenance, repair and overhaul, and finally to recycling. Put together, this makes Hamburg the third-biggest site in the civil aviation industry worldwide.
The two giants of the industry, Airbus and Lufthansa Technik, are joined by Hamburg Airport and more than 300 small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as a variety of scientific and technological institutions. Every one of them contributes know-how and expertise.
Companies, universities, associations, the economic authority and other partners have come together to form Hamburg Aviation, a cluster dedicated to advancing the city as an aviation location.
Together they pursue a common goal: to network research and development, thereby bringing to market high-quality products and services for the aviation of the future – products that are good for passengers and set the standards in terms of resource protection.
Hamburg Aviation concentrates on five product areas: the development and construction of aircraft and aircraft systems, the development and construction of cabins and cabin systems, the optimisation of aviation services, improving the efficiency of the air transportation system, and aviation-related information and communications technology.
In 2008, Hamburg’s aviation cluster was honoured by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as a Leading-Edge Cluster. In 2014, Hamburg Aviation joined the elite ranks of clusters to hold the European Commission’s GOLD Label for Europe’s best managed clusters. The “Land of Ideas” initiative declared Hamburg Aviation one of Germany’s “100 Landmarks” in 2016.
Success stories of the Hamburg Aviation cluster include the world’s most coveted prize in aircraft interiors, the Crystal Cabin Award, the long-term management of the European Aerospace Cluster Partnership (EACP) and the Urban Air Mobility network Windrove.
