The European Carbon Dioxide Utilisation Summit

Date: 5th October 2022 - 6th October 2022 Location: Dusseldorf - Germany

ACI’s The European Carbon Dioxide Utilisation Summit will take place in Dusseldorf, Germany on the 5th & 6th October 2022.

With ever increasing focus on sustainability and decarbonisation, many industries are looking for ways to use CO2, to both remove harmful emissions, and find value from this perceived “waste” material. This event will focus on new CO2 utilisation developments and technologies in the oil and gas, chemicals, energy, mineralisation and E-Fuels industries, as well as other-end markets. The conference will also highlight international legislation; updates and requirements of the industry, as well as an overview of the market since the 2015 Paris agreement.

Exclusive Site Visit: RWE Innovation Centre, Neideraussem Power Station on 4th October 2022.

There is no extra charge to attend the site visit, but spaces are limited and allocated to the conference delegates on a first come first served basis. Therefore, we strongly urge you to book your place early to avoid disappointment.

1PointFive is a carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) company focused on reducing atmospheric CO2. 1PointFive’s mission is to deliver solutions that help curb global temperature rise to 1.5oC by 2050 in alignment with global climate targets. We have a vision to turn captured CO2 into a valuable resource that can be utilized to create new products and a sustainable net-zero system.

Direct Air Capture (DAC) – 1PointFive has license to develop Carbon Engineering’s DAC technology. Direct Air Capture technology is expected to remove CO2 directly from the air at the megaton scale. The first 1PointFive DAC facility, planned for the Southwest United States, is expected to capture 500,000 tonnes of CO2 annually and begin operation in late 2024.

Point Source Capture – 1PointFive supports industrial and manufacturing facilities such as ethanol, steel, cement, biofuels, LNG, etc. engineer and develop CO2 capture plants at their facilities.

Geologic Sequestration – 1PointFive is developing CO2 sequestration hubs that will be dedicated to underground CO2 storage in saline formations. These hubs will aggregate CO2 from multiple point source emitters and may also be anchored by Direct Air Capture facilities for permanent CO2 storage.

CO2 to Fuels Synthesis (AIR TO FUELSTM) – 1PointFive plans to bolt on fuel synthesis processes to Direct Air Capture facilities to create low-carbon diesel and jet fuels utilizing the CO2 captured from the air.

CO2FOKUS project is developing a cutting-edge technology to convert industrial CO2 emitted by energy intensive industries, into DME, an added-value gas largely used in the chemical industry and in the energy sector.
Currently, DME is commercially produced through an indirect, two-step process involving the production of methanol and its subsequent dehydration. This process is energy intensive and requires substantial capital and infrastructure investments.
CO2FOKUS is demonstrating the viability of a single-step process involving the direct and continuous synthesis of DME from industrial CO2 and H2 in a more efficient way.
This involve both catalytic chemical and electrochemical conversion through innovative multichannel catalytic reactors and solid oxide electrolyser cells. Multichannel reactors are developed and manufactured by project partners using 3D printing techniques, and subsequently tested in an industrial environment with a CO2 point source.
DME is a versatile gas that can be used with different scopes and applications:
– As an ether, used as a chemical feedstock;
– As an intermediate chemical, for the synthesis of value-added products such as petrol, aromatics, and olefins;
– As a clean fuel, with a high cetane number, great combustion quality and extremely low toxicity.

The DME production through the CO2FOKUS project technology can fulfill the ever-increasing demand for alternative carbon-neutral and environmentally friendly fuels, chemical and energy
carriers, reducing the dependence of non-renewable sources.

CO2FOKUS aims to make a significant contribution to the fight against climate change by reducing CO2 emissions through the application of innovative Carbon Capture Utilization and hydrogen production technologies.

CO2FOKUS has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.
