10th Ship Recycling Congress

Date: 1st February 2023 - 2nd February 2023 Location: Amsterdam - The Netherlands

Ship breaking or ship demolition is a type of ship disposal involving the breaking up of ships for either a source of parts, which can be sold for re-use, or for the extraction of raw materials, chiefly scrap. Ship breaking allows the materials from the ship, especially steel, to be recycled and made into new products. This lowers the demand for mined iron ore and reduces energy use in the steelmaking process. Equipment on board the vessel can also be reused. While ship breaking is sustainable, there are concerns about the use of poorer countries without stringent environmental legislation. It is also considered one of the world’s most dangerous industries and very labour-intensive.

ACI is pleased to announce the 10th Ship Recycling Congress. The event will focus on the latest and upcoming EU regulations from 2022 and 2023, Transparency and Collaboration in Ship Recycling, IHM requirements, Evolving Sustainability and the Future of Ship Recycling

The conference will highlight the challenges to promote a responsible & sustainable future for the green ship recycling industry by developing transparency measures and complying with human & environmental rights.

The two day conference will consist of a number of informative presentations followed by interactive Q&A sessions, presentations giving a deep insight on the views shared from different aspects of the ship recycling process, as well as round tables and panel discussions to further involve the delegates.

We are on a mission to transform the maritime recycling industry into a truly safe and sustainable sector, with due respect for people and our planet. We apply proven health, safety and environmental standards from the offshore sector to all recycling projects to strive for zero pollution, zero incidents and zero accidents.

Sea2Cradle acts as intermediary and/or broker on behalf of ship owners and oil and gas companies, ensuring their vessels and rigs are recycled in an efficient, safe and environmentally friendly manner. This starts with good planning and an accurate inventory of hazardous materials, followed by a stringent recycling facility selection process.

Our multinational team consists of highly skilled and experienced professionals in the shipping and offshore industry. During supervision at the recycling and waste treatment facilities, Sea2Cradle superintendents see to it that work is carried out in a safe and environmentally sound way.

Over the past twenty years, we have successfully completed over 180 recycling projects and performed more than 250 inventories of hazardous materials. Our projects vary greatly in size and type, ranging from cargo and cruise vessels and all kinds of tankers to dredging and offshore vessels,  FPSO’s, and rigs.

We are a trusted advisor for governments for developing regulations and technical guidelines and we participate in various working groups in this field. To promote green recycling options for the maritime industry we perform market research and assist recycling facilities in improving their operations.
