MARS Ltd was established in 1971 to perform barge, boat, and ship demolition and recycling in the U.S. market. In 2017 a 10-year lease agreement was executed with the Port of Frederikshavn to operate a state of the art, purpose-built ship and offshore platform recycling facility. International Ship Recycling Association (ISRA)
The main objective of IRSA is promoting environmentally sound and safe recycling of ships.
ISRA is an association representing the strongest responsible yards of the globe. Accomplishing the ISRA high level demands for sustainable ship recycling, means that the ISRA-yards have made huge investments. Substandard yards do not invest in safe and sound recycling. Responsible recycling yards have to compete with these substandard yards. To eliminate this unfair competition, a level playing field is required as an essential, necessary component for achieving the main objective of ISRA: promoting sound and safe recycling of ships.
Ship recycling is an essential part in the circular economy
Since ship recycling is a crucial link in the chain of the whole shipping industry, ship owners and their financial institutions are thus an integral part in the chain of responsible and sustainable shipping. A cradle to grave philosophy for (financing) their assets supports ISRA’s worldwide goals. These organizations can contribute substantially to green recycling.

ISRA has excellent relationships with various international (e.g. IMO/EC/EP) and national organizations and uses these channels to achieve objectives of their members.
LEYAL Group is the leading ship recycler in Turkey, with a long and successful track record spanning over 35 years of continuous operations and having recycled in excess of 1000 vessels since the early 1980s.
LEYAL is the first non-European ship recycling facility worldwide (and unique in Turkey) to be included in the EU List of approved ship recycling facilities under the new European Ship Recycling Regulation 1257/2013.
