8th Ship Recycling Congress 2020

Date: 29th January 2020 - 30th January 2020 Location: Amsterdam - The Netherlands

The 8th edition of ACI’s Ship Recycling Congress will provide an insight into the latest updates on the EU Regulation 1257/2013 and the capacity issues, will focus on sustainable ship recycling, recycling of vessels with no EU flag, ratification of IMO’s Hong Kong convention, the global market overview, the Inventory Hazardous Materials, and much more.

The Congress will bring together senior executives and experts from ship owners, ship operators, ship yards, major associations, cash buyers, and green owners, class societies, and others, to discuss the latest changes, challenges and developments within the industry.

Ship breaking allows the materials from the ship, especially steel, to be recycled and made into new products. This lowers the demand for mined iron ore and reduces energy use in the steelmaking process. While ship breaking is sustainable, there are concerns about the use of poorer countries without stringent environmental legislation. It is also considered one of the world’s most dangerous industries and very labour-intensive.

Join us in Amsterdam on 29th – 30th January and do not miss the opportunity to meet key representatives of the industry.

The company is member of ISRA and ESR

International Ship Recycling Association (ISRA)
The main objective of ISRA is promoting environmentally sound and safe recycling of ships.
ISRA is an association representing the strongest responsible yards of the globe. Accomplishing the ISRA high level demands for sustainable ship recycling, means that the ISRA-yards have made huge investments. Substandard yards do not invest in safe and sound recycling. Responsible recycling yards have to compete with these substandard yards. To eliminate this unfair competition, a level playing field is required as an essential, necessary component for achieving the main objective of ISRA: promoting sound and safe recycling of ships.

Ship recycling is an essential part in the circular economy
Since ship recycling is a crucial link in the chain of the whole shipping industry, ship owners and their financial institutions are thus an integral part in the chain of responsible and sustainable shipping. A cradle to grave philosophy for (financing) their assets supports ISRA’s worldwide goals. These organizations can contribute substantially to green recycling.
Being an (associate) member of ISRA, organizations show and commit themselves to the ISRA objectives.
ISRA has excellent relationships with various international (e.g. IMO/EC/EP) and national organizations and uses these channels to achieve objectives of their members.

Sea2Cradle is built around a multinational team of highly skilled and experienced professionals that can handle ships in all shapes and sizes. Our mission is to set new standards for the ship recycling industry, and to help as many ship owners as possible to hassle-free recycle their ship, rig, platform or FPSO responsibly.

With increasing demand from interested ship owners in green recycling, many of whom with highly respected names in the shipping industry, the team handled dozens of projects over the last years, while setting new standards for Health, Safety and Environmental performance: demolition yards with an accident-free working environment, proper disposal of hazardous materials without exposure to the workers, recycling over 95% of all material with the aim of 100%. These are just some examples of the standards Sea2Cradle upholds in every project.

All the recycling yards we work with combine a safe working environment with high environmental performance. Our aim is zero pollution, zero accidents and zero incidents.

Aside from raising the bar from an operational perspective, we are actively participating in the legislational process and promoting green ship recycling options for the shipping industry.

The team behind Sea2Cradle has for many years worked towards establishing a level playing field for Green Ship Recycling and have actively participated in IMO’s work leading to the Ship Recycling Convention. Furthermore, we remain involved in future work of the European Commission DG Environment, ILO, IMO, Basel Convention and local governments such as China, the United Kingdom and The Netherlands.

RINA supports the sustainable growth of companies along the entire project development cycle, whilst taking into account their environmental and social impacts as a way to enhance their competitiveness and ultimately generate value. Over time, we have honed our skills on environmental issues, greenhouse effect mitigation, life cycle analysis, energy efficiency and sustainability of organizations, products, services, processes and systems. We offer certification and conformity assessment services to public and private organisations that are committed to promoting and implementing sustainability, environmental protection and circular economy goals.
