The majority of LLDPE and HDPE is produced by using heterogeneous catalysts, where silica and MgCl₂ are used as the most common catalyst supports. Metallocene catalysts are typically impregnated on silica when used in commercial gas phase and slurry processes. Although catalyst supports have high surface area and good morphology, they give some limitations to catalyst behavior in polymerization.

Norner has developed a novel PE production technology which enable metallocene catalysts to reach high yields, increased molecular weight, improved polymer homogeneity and purity in multimodal slurry polymerization technologies. By utilizing homogeneous catalysts in slurry processes, Advance® M has good potential to be cost competitive with reduced catalyst cost and environmental footprint vs. traditional PE technologies. The polymer powder morphology can be adjusted to meet the requirements given by the various slurry polymerization technologies.

PlasticsFatE (Plastics Fate and Effects in the human body) is creating a comprehensive measurement programme to improve our present understanding of the impact of these particles and associated contaminants in the human body. This will inform a risk assessment strategy to support the health-relevant aims of the EU strategies for plastics. PlasticsFatE is a 48-month project funded by the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme of the European Union. The project will run from 1st April 2021 to 31st March 2025.
