ACI’s 4th Operating Specialist Wind Vessels Summit will be taking place in Hamburg, Germany, on 27th — 28th September 2017. The two day event will bring together key industry stakeholders from the offshore wind farm maintenance and wind farm service vessel operations industry.
The demand for renewable energy forms keeps growing. European market is constantly investing in a variety of renewable energy forms including offshore wind energy. The investments into the industry support the growth of windfarms and wind turbines. The increase in size of wind farms, size of turbines and support structures calls for a specialised fleet of vessels to install and service these wind farms. The need to transfer both equipment and manpower in a safe and efficient manner has led to demand for tougher health & safety guidelines and industry wide debate on how best to operate to increase ROI for wind vessel operators.
4th Operating Specialist Wind Vessels Conference will give in-depth analysis on operational techniques used within this specialised area, give detail on developments in safety management for the vessels and CTVs, provide direct feedback from the vessel operators and the windfarm developers on projects, as well as key insights into design features and equipment for operations, maintenance, installation and construction of wind farms.

Next Ocean offers a new predictive wave motion technology to expand operational boundaries.
Waves play a major role during most offshore operations. Unfortunately, sea waves behave in an irregular and unpredictable way. We know that waves occasionally exceed certain operational limits but we do not know when such waves occur. Till now…
Next Ocean’s prediction system has changed this: it predicts the actual time traces of waves approaching the ship and the resulting ship motion response. Real time, on-board and up to minutes in advance.
Common practice is to take a statistical approach to operability: just a very low probability that a limiting wave event occurs is accepted. As a consequence the waves and resulting ship motions are well below the critical value during operation most of the time, leaving a huge gap in workability to gain.
Predicting when and where high waves occur enables offshore operators to choose an optimal time window free of high waves for the most critical phase of their operation rather than wait for better conditions or ‘hope’ for the best.
The main input for Next Ocean’s wave prediction system comes from the ship’s navigation radar. An additional dedicated radar antenna is therefore not required. The system can be installed and tested within one day.
The system is currently undergoing operational tests on the North Sea. Test results are expected by the end of 2017. The Next Ocean wave prediction system is targeted for market entry in 2018.”

Energy Insight is an independent web journal focused on renewable energy in every form including solar, wind, biofuel, hydrokinetic, and geothermal power.
Wherever you stand on the issue of climate change or global warming, one thing is certain: Humans are polluting their environment with devastating consequences. We’ve spent centuries perfecting ways of turning non-renewable resources — petroleum, coal, and more recently uranium — into energy. But these are far too valuable to simply be burned as fuel.
It’s time we focused on tapping into the renewable sources of energy with which Earth has been blessed.
