For example, biogas produced from industrial wastewater, sludge or waste can be used very flexible in order to substitute other energy sources. Production of electricity and heat, of biomethane and its feed into the public gas network, the use as biofuel in the form of Bio-CNG or Bio-LNG or even combined production of compressed air and heat are some alternatives. Which of those come seriously into consideration and which are the most attractive, depends on individual conditions.
Nordsol works with biogas producers from a variety of sectors to develop new projects for small-scale, decentralized production of bio-LNG (liquefied biomethane). Our bio-LNG solution increases the valuation of biogas. With this solution, biogas is upgraded to the next level of decarbonization, supporting a more environmentally friendly form of LNG along with a reduction of our carbon footprint.
The Nordsol bio-LNG installation in Amsterdam will produce 3,4 kton bio-LNG per year starting in the summer of 2021. Biogas from Renewi is upgraded to ultra-pure biomethane and then liquefied to bio-LNG which Shell will offtake. In addition, the installation will capture the CO2 from the biogas and liquefy this for use in greenhouse horticulture.
Nordsol has largely reinvented LNG technology to come up with a blueprint for small-scale, decentralized production of bio-LNG that is robust and financially viable. This technology, called iLNG, is applied in our own installation in Amsterdam as well as in those of our clients. In addition, our clients can also take advantage of Nordsol’s bio-LNG market expertise to organize the full value chain from biogas to bio-LNG offtake.

Cedigaz has members all over the world.
