Torrey Pines Golf Course, designed in 1957, stirs the imagination of golf enthusiasts all over the world. It has been a “golfer’s paradise” for years, built upon towering cliffs above the Pacific Ocean while facing the mountains to the north. The rest of the world was welcomed to this paradise in 2008 as Torrey Pines became just the second municipally-owned public course in the country to host the U.S. Open, and it did not disappoint. Tiger Woods would overcome an incredible leaderboard of challengers earlier in the week, drain one of the greatest clutch putts in golf history on Sunday afternoon, endure a 19-hole Monday playoff against determined journeyman Rocco Mediate, all while playing through a double stress fracture of his left leg to win his 14th Major championship and his 3rd U.S. Open Trophy.
