Oak Tree National G.C. opened in 1974, with founders Ernie Vossler and Joe Walser directing golf course architect Pete Dye to build the most challenging golf course in the country. Other major golf events hosted at Oak Tree National were the 1988 PGA Championship (won by Jeff Sluman) and the 2006 Senior PGA Championship (won by Jay Haas). The renovation to return the golf course back to its original, nationally-renowned condition will bring the best golfers 50 years old and up to play in the 2014 U.S. Senior Open Championship.
A little history: The U.S. Senior Open Championship first began in 1980 due to a notable increase in senior golf play. Since then, it has thrived and grown into one of the most revered and exciting tournaments in the world, whose winner automatically gains entry into the following season’s U.S. Open. Numerous golf legends including Arnold Palmer, Billy Casper and Jack Nicklaus have all taken the U.S. Senior Open title in the past and the 2014 tournament at Oak Tree National G.C. is gearing up to be one of the best.
