What was supposed to be a nice stroll through Bethpage State Park for Brooks Koepka on Sunday en route to another Major Championship win turned into a staggering finish, as the Black Course and Dustin Johnson gave Brooks all he could handle before he would eventually hold on to win the 2019 PGA Championship! Making the turn with a seemingly insurmountable 6-shot lead, Brooks would log 4 bogeys in a row beginning at the 11th hole. D.J. played the same stretch at even par, watching Koepka come back to him on the leaderboard and even cutting the deficit to a single stroke after he was able to make a birdie on 15. However, Brooks would steady the ship and make a teeth-gnashing par on the 72nd and final hole of the championship to raise the Wanamaker Trophy once again.
Koepka enters some truly rarefied air with this win and puts his name up with some of the best to ever play the game. This is his 4th Major Championship win, which only 18 other men in the last 75 years have accomplished. Sunday’s victory also means that he is the first golfer to EVER hold consecutive titles at 2 different Majors at the same time. And finally, Brooks’ hot streak is nothing short of historic after winning 4 Majors within the last 8 attempts. The other golfers to ever do the same? Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. Incredible!
