ISM Welcomes Steve Lappas!

ISM is pleased to announce our guest speaker for our private hospitality in advance of the NCAA Semi-Finals in Minneapolis, MN will be CBS Sports Analyst and former collegiate basketball coach, Steve Lappas!

Steve Lappas joined CBS Sports Network in 2005 as a college basketball analyst, and serves as both a game and studio analyst.

In 17 years as head coach at UMass (2001-05), Villanova (1992-01) and Manhattan College (1988-92), Lappas compiled a 280-237 (.541) mark and led his teams to four NCAA Tournament appearances, four NIT appearances and one NIT Championship. He also coached nine NBA players during his career, including Rod Strickland (Harry S. Truman High School) and Kerry Kittles (Villanova).

At Manhattan, Lappas led his team to 25 wins and an appearance in the Third Round of the NIT in his final year at a program that had won 74 games in the 10 years prior to his arrival.

Lappas’ Villanova team won the 1994 NIT Championship and the 1995 BIG EAST Tournament Championship. In nine years under Lappas, Villanova played in the postseason seven times including four NCAA Tournaments.

Lappas began his career as a head coach at Truman High School in the Bronx, where he won the 1984 NYC and New York State Championships and was a two-time New York Daily News Coach of the Year selection. He began his collegiate career at Villanova, where he served as assistant coach from 1984-88, and was on the staff of Villanova’s 1985 National Championship team that upset Georgetown in the national final.

Lappas is a member of the CCNY and Manhattan College Halls of Fame. In 2017, he was inducted into the Villanova and NYC Basketball Halls of Fame.

A New York City native, Lappas graduated from Bronx Science High School in 1972, where he played on the 1971 City Championship team. He went on to play basketball at City College of New York, where he was team captain. Lappas resides in Malvern, Pa. with his wife Harriet, who teaches AP Government at Malvern Prep High School.
