Sunday, May 13th, Webb Simpson sealed the deal at the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass! This was his first Tour win since 2013, and what a win it was! Despite finishing the final round 1 over par paired with a double bogey on the last hole, his performance in earlier rounds carried him through to a win by four strokes.
Let’s talk about those early rounds… Round 1 he finished -6 with 66, by all means a solid performance. Then during Round 2, he equaled the course record with six consecutive birdies, finishing 9-under par with 63. Round 23 he shot a solid 68 to finish that 4-under. Even after a struggle with a double bogey at 18 during Sunday’s round, his final score still left him far ahead of the three-way tie behind him of Schwartzel, Walker, and Schauffele.
With this win, Simpson vaulted up in the FedEx Cup rankings to #8 from #36 last week, and since he has now won the Players Championship and a U.S. Open back in 2012, the 32-year-old could be eligible for a World Golf Hall of Fame nod in the future!
