In a result that shocked few, Floyd Mayweather Jr. defeated UFC star Conor McGregor by technical knockout before a crowd of 14,623 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday. With the triumph and his legacy intact, Mayweather becomes the first boxer to finish his career at 50-0, eclipsing the record he had previously shared with the legendary heavyweight of the 1940s and 50s, Rocky Marciano.
After a slow start in which Mayweather gave away the first three rounds in order to pick up McGregor’s rhythms, the former pound-for-pound king began his attack. Round 10 was all Mayweather as he walked down the fading Irishman with right hands. After a clean combination against the ropes, referee Robert Byrd jumped in at 1:05 to wave off the fight.
