Next Generation Microgrids

Date: 26th February 2014 - 28th February 2014 Location: Hartford - Connecticut - USA

Next Generation Microgrids

A three-day conference highlighting Next Generation Microgrids: Harnessing the Power of Microgrids for Increased Energy Efficiency, Storage Capacity, Demand Management and Reliability.

Featuring a Tour of the University of Connecticut Center for Clean Energy Engineering and The Fraunhofer Center for Energy Innovation.

The mission of the Fraunhofer Center for Energy Innovation (CEI) at the University of Connecticut is to develop advanced technologies related to energy storage, fuel cells, in-stream hydro, power management and distribution through contract research.

The Center was created by Fraunhofer USA, Inc., Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS, the State of Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), and the University of Connecticut. Upon its founding in 2013, CEI became the seventh Fraunhofer USA research center. Each Fraunhofer research center is partnered with a research university in the U.S. and also with a Fraunhofer Institute in Germany.

Global installed capacity of microgrid has seen a staggering growth since 2011 and is forecast to grow at a CAGR of over 17% from 2012- 2022 to attain a total installed capacity of over 15GW by 2022.

In terms of market value for the vendors the market presents a potential of over $5 billion and is likely to reach up-to $27 billion by 2022.
