ASSOCIATION PARTNERS

WISTA is an international networking organization for women at management level in the maritime industry. WISTA pursues and supports domestic and international business relationships among members, creating opportunities to advance careers, cooperate, increase professional experience and skill, share best practices and work across borders. Operating in 40+ countries around the world, WISTA International is an organisation that connects shipping and trading professionals. With one of the broadest networks in the world, membership in WISTA covers nearly every occupation and sector within the industry.

WISTA Singapore is a national chapter of WISTA – the first to be founded in Asia, made-up of women professionals working from diverse companies such as ship owners, trading houses, bunkering houses, ship brokers, chartering, ship management, insurance, finance and the law. WISTA Singapore was established in 1998 as a non-profit organisation, providing a networking forum for female professionals involved in shipping, trading and related business within the maritime industry.

The Association of Malaysia’s Maritime Professionals or the IKHTISAS KELAUTAN MALAYSIA (IKMAL) is a non-governmental organisation for Malaysia’s seagoing and shore-based officers holding certificates of competency (CoC) of any grade, harbour pilot licences issued by authorised Malaysian agencies or appropriate maritime-affiliated degrees. Those holding other degrees, but who have worked for a substantial duration within the maritime industry may also be considered for membership.

Established as the “INSTITUT” KELAUTAN MALAYSIA in 1985 admitting as Ordinary Members only the highest-level officers (holding Master Class 1 Foreign-Going Vessels or Chief Engineer Class 1 Foreign-Going CoC), it then aspired to be a body furthering their professional interests. It conducted tea-talk sessions, seminars and conferences with the aim of enhancing their knowledge, skills and competencies. It also regularly published journals containing articles of professional interests.

With the advent of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006, IKMAL amended its constitution in 2014 substituting the word ‘INSTITUT’ with ‘IKHTISAS’, accepting CoC holders of any grade as Ordinary Members and made the furtherance of the interests and welfare of its members as its primary objective.

With that, IKMAL is now acknowledged as an organisation that could be consulted by appropriate authorities on matters relating to the betterment of seagoing and shore-based officers as well as any other issues related to the human aspect of the maritime industry.

Initially known as Insititut Kelautan Malaysia, the name was changed to Ikhtisas Kelautan Malaysia on 5th November 2014 (as approved by the Registrar of Societies, Malaysia).

The Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA) is one of Asia’s leading arbitration centres for maritime and international trade arbitration. SCMA is a not-for-profit institution designed to serve the dispute resolution needs of the regional and global maritime communities.

Originally established in November 2004 under the management of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), SCMA acted on industry feedback and was reconstituted in May 2009 as an independent arbitration body based on an un-administered arbitration model. This approach is preferred by the global shipping and trading communities and accords parties the opportunity to resolve their disputes in an expeditious and cost-effective manner.

SCMA’s rules are kept simple and updated through regular industry consultations. SCMA does not charge filing or administration fees and does not impose an ad-valorem scale on arbitrators’ fees. SCMA curates a panel of experienced maritime arbitrators who are highly specialised in one or more maritime disciplines.

SCMA is supported by our members, which comprise of individuals and companies from all sectors of the maritime and international trade communities. SCMA members take an active role and guide its development to ensure that SCMA remains relevant and responsive to industry needs.

Initiated in 2007 by the IMO, Women in Maritime Philippines Association (WIMAPHIL) was established with the objective of empowering women to actively participated in the issues that affect the maritime industry in the areas of environment, safe shipping and gender equity, among others.
