The port of Cartagena (PoC) has a unique geostrategic position that is key for communication routes between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, as well as for intercontinental routes between America, Europe, Asia and Africa. It is a privileged entrance door to Europe. PoC is the most competitive and dynamic port in Spain. Construction and subsequent expansion of the dock of Escombreras’ basin, which is specialized in liquid bulk cargo, has positioned PoC as one of the most important bulk cargo ports in western Mediterranean. Escombreras’ basin modern facilities operate in an extremely agile manner while enclosing an impressive growth potential. PoC has obtained the European Business Award for the environment.

Port of Tarragona is located in the southern Europe largest chemical cluster – ChemMed Tarragona. It is an area of a large concentration of manufacturing and processing companies, because of its excellent location and accessibility to the inner European markets. Both north and south poles are linked to the port via pipelines. Tarragona production accounts for 25% of Spanish chemical and petrochemical production and represents the 50% of Catalonia production.
Port of Tarragona continues to be one of the most important and leading ports in Spain, with more than 33 million tonnes handled in 2019. More than 60% of the traffic is about liquid bulk, and the storage capacity of independent terminal companies are increasing. In 2019, there are more than 800.000 cubic metres of capacity, and we expect to increase it to 1.5M cubic metres in the following years thanks to some expansion projects.
The Port of Tarragona strives to improve its installations and services each and every day in order to become a more secure, sustainable and involved port for chemical and petrochemical products. Traffic jams do not exist in Tarragona and additional benefits are provided such as the deepest water depth in the Mediterranean Sea.
