It has been a great honour and greatly uplifting to read about the amazing work of so many incredibly talented young women in the field of lubrication & tribology. I received nominations from industry and academia for the Future Star 2023 Award. The candidates for the Women in Focus Award come from North America, Europe & Africa.
This year’s winner was described by her supervisor and mentor as a “natural-born leader” who has a “passion for promoting the tribology field to a wider audience”. She has, to date, guided ten graduate school applicants to secure scholarships for their studies in the USA, Europe & Australia. In addition to this she is described as displaying “academic prowess” and exceptional research abilities”.
I am delighted to announce Marybeth Chetachukwu Ugoh, Master Student at Luleå University of Technology, Sweden, as the winner of Base Oil & Lubes Connect’s Women in Focus 2023 Future Star Award.
Marybeth was born in Nigeria and travelled to Europe to pursue a masters degree in the Erasmus Mundus Masters in Tribology of Surfaces and Interfaces program Master TRIBOS. She has studied in the UK & Slovenia as well as Sweden. Her research involves analysing the performance of environmentally friendly base fluids before and after degradation to identify metrics for monitoring their service life.
Congratulations Marybeth!
