2015 Masters »

Date: 15/04/2015

Once again, professional golf’s greatest players (both current stars and past legends) assembled together for the biggest golf championship in the world, The Masters in Augusta, GA!  This tournament is rich in tradition, and every year a new chapter is added to the storied event history.  However, once in a great while, that history is re-written with a remarkable performance.  This year’s tournament featured exactly that, as 21-year old Jordan Spieth rewrote several records on his way to victory and putting on the infamous Green Jacket.

Whether it was the 36-hole, 54-hole and (tied) 72-hole scoring records, the most birdies ever made at one Masters, the only golfer to ever reach (-19) at The Masters, or the first person in over 40 years to win The Masters wire-to-wire (and only the 5th person in history to do so), ISM Clients this week witnessed one of the greatest tournament performances in major championship history.

A big thank you to all of our clients for their partnership and their guests for attending and enjoying our hospitality event during The Masters this year, and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone again next spring in Augusta!

2015 Final Four »

Date: 10/04/2015

After 2 weeks of NCAA tournament action that included many close games, buzzer-beaters and shining moments, there were 4 teams that were able to navigate through the madness and punch their ticket to the Final Four in Indianapolis.  In the first National Semifinal game, a rematch from last season’s Final Four provided a different outcome this time, as the young, undefeated and heavily-favored Kentucky team suffered their first and only defeat of the season at the hands of a veteran Wisconsin squad.  The Badgers, who were #1 seed from the West Region, would advance to the National Championship game to play another #1 seed, this time being against a rolling Duke team who pulled away from Michigan State in the 2nd half to win the other semifinal game handily.

In Monday’s National Championship game, a back-and-forth first half lead to a tie score at halftime.  In the 2nd half, after an early Wisconsin run, the young Blue Devils would come back and defeat the Badgers 68-63 to claim the school’s 5th National Championship trophy.

2015 College Football Championship »

Date: 15/01/2015

The first ever College Football Championship is over and unlike the last time the Ducks and Bucks met in an inaugural championship (1939), this time Ohio State reigned supreme in a dominating victory over Oregon. Over 85,000 people packed AT&T Stadium to witness a 3rd string quarterback throw and run over an Oregon defense like no one else has done all year. As painful as this game was for our West Coast clients, most in attendance were Big Ten supporters and thoroughly enjoyed a well-produced, well-ticketed Championship!

2014 BMW Championship »

Date: 10/09/2014

After chunking his opportunity to potentially win his very first FedExCup Playoff event last week in Boston, Billy Horschel bounced back with a drama-free 2-stroke victory in the 2014 BMW Championship outside Denver, CO.  The first playoff event ever to be hosted west of the Mississippi River, Cherry Hills C.C. provided a stern test to the 70 remaining golfers who advanced to this point in the Playoffs; however, after firing a blistering 63 (-7 to par) on Saturday, Horschel was able to keep his distance from a pack of well-known golfers on Sunday to notch his 2nd career victory on the PGA Tour with a total -14 to par (268 score).  Reigning Masters champion Bubba Watson was the next closest at 2 strokes back, with 25-year old Morgan Hoffmann shooting his own 63 to finish in 3rd place.  Jim Furyk, Sergio Garcia, Rickie Fowler, Ryan Palmer, Adam Scott, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth rounded out a star-studded top 10.

2014 PGA Championship »

Date: 11/08/2014

The rise of the top golfers in the world, paired with the fall of the sun into the night, still could not upend Rory McIlroy and his pursuit for a 2nd straight Major Championship win in 2014 (and 3rd straight overall win).  A fierce start by Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler on the front nine eclipsed Rory’s lead almost immediately out of the gates on Sunday, and what followed was some of the most intense and entertaining golf in recent memory.  However, a demonstrative eagle on the 10th hole revitalized McIlroy, and he went on to shoot a 32 on the back nine to hang on and claim his 2nd Wanamaker trophy in the last 3 years.  Phil Mickelson finished in 2nd place at a Major Championship for the 9th time in his career, and while Rickie Fowler lost out on his 1st Major Championship, he can take solace in the fact that he is only the 3rd player ever to finish inside the top 5 in all 4 majors during a year (the others being Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods).

2014 MLB All-Star Game »

Date: 23/07/2014

The 85th MLB All-Star Game was played for the 3rd time ever in the Twin Cities, and for the 2nd year in a row (and 9th in the last 12 years), the American League was able to hold off the National League to win the Mid-Summer Classic, by a score of 5-3!  22-year old Mike Trout, the young superstar from the Anaheim Angels, won game MVP honors as he went 2 for 3 with a double, triple and 2 RBI, and helped the American League clinch home-field advantage for their participant in the World Series later this fall.  Derek Jeter, the 14-time All-Star who will be retiring after the end of the season, made the most of his final appearance in the Mid-Summer classic, going 2 for 2 before being pulled in the top of the 4th inning to a standing ovation from a crowd of 42,000+ fans.

2014 US Senior Open »

Date: 23/07/2014

The 2014 U.S. Senior Open was played for the first time ever at Oak Tree National in Edmond, OK.  Oak Tree, which has previously been host to the 1988 PGA Championship and the 2006 Senior PGA Championship, lived up to the hype as it was as challenging a layout as the top professional golfers aged 50 and above will compete on this year.  Add to the tough setup sweltering heat and high winds, and the stage was set for a fantastic week of golf.  Only 4 golfers in the field were able to keep their overall score in red numbers after the 4 day tournament.  Sunday’s temperatures peaked at 103 degrees, and extra holes were needed before Colin Montgomerie defeated Gene Sauers in a 3-hole, aggregate score playoff to win the 2014 U.S. Senior Open, his 1st USGA title ever, and 2nd “Senior” Major Championship this season (having gone 0 for 71 in regular Majors in his career).

2014 U.S. Open Golf Championship »

Date: 19/06/2014

The 2014 US Open is finished and the first Continental European winner has been crowned in Germany’s Martin Kaymer. While the field was tight for most of the tourney, Kaymer ran to a quick lead by going 5 under in Round 1 and never looked back. The feel good story of the event was Erik Compton coming in 2nd after having received two prior heart transplants!

2014 Wells Fargo Championship »

Date: 07/05/2014

Once again, we turn the calendar to May, and with that comes with it old acquaintances and new friends (along with the biggest golfing names in the game) to Charlotte and Quail Hollow Club!  The annual Wells Fargo Championship is in the books, and great golf was once again delivered by the tournament, great weather was once again prevalent throughout the weekend, and ISM Clients once again provided a remarkable hospitality experience for their most valued customers and clients.

2014 Masters »

Date: 16/04/2014

The 2014 Masters was once again an opportunity for someone to stamp their claim on greatness, and heading into Sunday, there were plenty of competitors who were trying to make history.  It could have been Jordan Spieth, who was trying to become the youngest Masters champion ever.  It could have been the seemingly age-less Fred Couples, who in his 30th Masters tournament was vying to become the oldest winner in Masters (and major championship) history.  It could have been international journeymen like Jonas Blixt from Sweden, Lee Westwood from England, or Miguel Jimenez from Spain, all multiple tour winners but still seeking that elusive 1st Major victory.  And after all that, it was a familiar face that ended up slipping on the Green Jacket for the 2nd time in 3 years.

Bubba Watson calmed himself after a shaky start to take the lead on the 8th hole and never looked back, as he won by 3 strokes and posted another victory at Augusta National.  The back nine was so solid for Bubba (and so unspectacular for everyone else in the hunt), that the only time his mettle would be broken was when he embraced his 2-year old son Caleb on the 18th green after sinking his final par putt to finish at -9 under par for the tournament.

2014 Final Four »

Date: 09/04/2014

The UConn Huskies put the final touches on one of the most improbable runs in NCAA Tournament history tonight, as the #7 seed took down another 2014 “Cinderella” in the #8 seed Kentucky Wildcats to win the 2014 Men’s Basketball Championship!  An early 15-point lead gave UConn some breathing room, but not for long as UK narrowed the gap to a 4-point deficit at halftime.  Momentum swung back and forth in the 2nd half, but Shabazz Napier and Company would never let UK closer than a single point and pulled away in the last minute to clinch UConn’s 4th National Championship and 3rd in the last 10 years!

2014 March Madness »

2014 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am »

Date: 14/02/2014

The 2014 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is in the books, and even though both the weather and Jimmy Walker’s final 9 holes on Sunday were a bit dicey, both recovered nicely for another great event on the banks of the Monterey Peninsula.  Walker, a 35-year old journeyman on the PGA Tour, was able to salvage par on the final hole to avoid a 3-man playoff and win the 2014 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am by a single stroke over Americans Dustin Johnson and Jim Renner.  This is Jimmy’s 3rd win already on the young PGA Tour regular season!

2013 Presidents Cup »

Date: 09/10/2013

The International team, captained by Nick Price, trailed the U.S. team from start to finish.  Freddie Couples had his “red, white & blue” squad playing relaxed, yet focused golf throughout.  Needing to win only four of the 12 singles matches to clinch the cup for the fifth consecutive time against the International team, the Americans got three points in the first five matches.  They need to win only one of the last seven matches, but that was no easy task.  Hours later, playing with a “sketchy” lower back, Tiger Woods wrapped it up on the 18th hole with a  two putt par enabling the Stars & Stripes to retain possession of the coveted Cup.  The U.S. remains undefeated on its home turf since the tournament’s inception in 1994.

2013 BMW Championship »

Date: 02/10/2013

After a 1-year hiatus out of Chicago, the BMW Championship (the 3rd leg of the 4 tournament PGA Tour FedExCup Playoffs) returned to the Second City September 6-9, played out in Lake Forest at Conway Farms Golf Club.  The top 70 players remaining in theh Playoffs took on not only a tough course that was played for the first time by many of the players, but also had to deal with a typical myriad of a Midwestern fall weather pattern.  90 degrees on Thursday, windy conditions on Friday, a perfect 75 degrees on Saturday, and finally a cold, damp, rainy day on Sunday (which only saw roughly 3 1/2 hours of golf actually played during the day).  Zack Johnson stayed in contention but under the radar until Monday's extra day, when he climbed up the leaderboard with a 65 and claimed his 1st FedExCup event title, beating Jim Furyk who shot an amazing 59 (-12 under par) on Friday but could only muster a combined -1 for the other 3 rounds combined.

2013 PGA Championship »

Date: 30/09/2013

At the 2011 PGA Championship in Atlanta, Jason Dufner bogeyed 3 of the final 4 holes on Sunday to lose the lead (and eventually the Wanamaker Trophy in a playoff) to his friend Keegan Bradley.  Two years later, on the East Course of Oak Hill Country Club, his play almost mirrored that of his collapse 2 years earlier.  However, the result was much different.  The quiet yet determined golfer caught 54-hole leader Jim Furyk after only 4 holes played on Sunday and would eventually hold Furyk off, even after finishing bogey-bogey, to win his 1st Major Championship.  Dufner and Furyk, who were the only 2 individuals to hold an overnight lead during the entire tournament, battled throughout the front 9 holes on Sunday, before Dufner took a 2-shot lead entering the back nine and would never lose that lead again.

2013 British Open Championship »

Date: 29/07/2013

Some of the best golfers in the world came into the Sunday and final round of the 2013 British Open Golf Championship with a chance to grab the Claret Jug.  Phil Mickelson, still reeling from yet another U.S. Open disappointment, was the only one to step up and claim the prize.  Mickelson won the 153rd playing of the Open Championship at Muirfield with one of his best rounds in a Major while earning the 3rd leg of the career “Grand Slam.”

2013 MLB All-Star Game »

Date: 29/07/2013

The best in baseball were on full display at Citi Field in Queens, New York for the 2013 edition of the MLB All Star Game!  For the 3rd year in a row, quality pitching ruled the day as the American League snapped a 3-year losing streak as they blanked a potent National League lineup, 3-0.  With the win, the American League’s representative in this fall’s World Series will have home-field advantage!  Mariano Rivera, commonly referred to as the greatest “Closer” in baseball history, came out to thunderous applause from the crowd and, after pitching a perfect 8th inning, was voted the 1st reliever to ever win MVP honors.

2013 US Open Golf Championship »

Date: 29/07/2013

Another U.S. Open.  Another runner-up finish for Phil Mickelson.

This all-too-common theme once again played out it’s ugly tune for a record 6th time at the 2013 U.S. Open Golf Championship.  Justin Rose outlasted the struggling Hall of Famer Mickelson, along with a loaded field of competitors and a fiercely-staunch Merion Golf Club, to win his first Major Championship.  The 32-year old Brit had a bouncy Sunday round that included five birdies and five bogies, however was able to hold on to the U.S. Open trophy as not a single competitor was able to match or break par during the 4-day tournament.  The smaller-than-normal golf course in Ardmore, PA was the star of the week, as once purported as “too short and too soft” became one of the most formidable (yet fair) U.S. Open venues in recent memory.

2013 MASTERS »

Date: 19/04/2013

The 2013 Masters provided another thrilling week of golf for all, full of great drives, bad drops and clutch putts.  In the end, it took an amazing birdie on the 72nd hole and 2 playoff holes before Adam Scott bested Angel Cabrera and became the 1st Australian ever to slip on the coveted Green Jacket as Masters Champion.  ISM clients enjoyed every moment of the tournament, from the ceremonial 1st tee with the “Big Three” all the way through the Green Jacket ceremony on Sunday evening.  As always, ISM hospitality was hosted at our private venue located conveniently by Gate #9.

2012 Ryder Cup »

Date: 04/10/2012

We just finished one of the most thrilling, albeit disappointing Ryder Cups in years last weekend. It was beautiful fall weather in Chicago and the Ryder Cup Teams started off with the US strong and gaining momentum on the rowdy home soil, until Sunday morning came and the unthinkable occurred when up 10 to 6, the Europeans stormed back and literally dismantled the American side in the biggest comeback on foreign soil ever in the Ryder Cup. The only solace on the US side was that we helped put the Euros in place to retain the Cup, first with the Marshall Plan and now with failing to play with conviction as our friends across the pond enjoyed a US meltdown for the ages.

2012 BMW Championship »

Date: 12/09/2012

The BMW Championship at Crooked Stick in Carmel, Indiana featured many of the top players in golf this year, contending for the FedEx Cup finale in just two weeks.

Standing alone at the end was Rory McIlroy, the 23 year old phenom from Northern Ireland.  McIlroy fought off challenges from the likes of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Lee Westwood, Vijay Singh, Dustin Johnson and Adam Scott, a veritable “Who’s Who” of golfing greatness.

Powering his way through soggy conditions, McIlroy broke out of a four way tie and played bogey-free golf until the 18th hole.  By that time it was enough to claim the trophy and become the first player since Tiger Woods in 2009 to win in consecutive weeks on the PGA Tour.  To give this some historical perspective, he joins Woods and Jack Nicklaus as the only players to have achieved 6 career tour wins at the age of 23.

Probably the most disconcerting revelation to the rest of the PGA Tour was that Rory McIroy admitted he expected to win all along.

Up next for ISM is the 2012 Ryder Cup Matchs in Medinah, IL!

2012 US Open Golf Championship »

Date: 28/06/2012

The 112th US Open is in the books and the drama was intense. The early days were all about Tiger while the weekend found one of the tightest leaderboards in US Open history with 14 within striking distance. In the end, Webb Simpson prevailed as the two leaders coming into Sunday, both former US Open winners, faltered on 18 and missed forcing a playoff.

2012 MASTERS »

Date: 12/04/2012

The 2012 Masters finished up Sunday with a thrilling playoff victory by Bubba Watson over Louis Oostehuizen. Almost all the ISM clients stayed for the Green Jacket ceremony and agreed this was the most exciting finish in years! There were 5 players within 2 shots of the lead on Sunday on the back 9 and this was after Louis scored an albatross on #2 earlier in the day. . Phil Mickelson was one of those who was close but after his triple on #4, he couldn’t recover. Congrats again to Bubba!

2012 Final Four »

Date: 12/04/2012

The Championship Saturday in New Orleans was incredibly exciting with Kentucky hanging to beat a hard charging Louisville and Kansas actually came back from a double digit deficit to beat favorite Ohio State in a grand finale for the evening. This set up one of the most exciting Championship Games in years with Kentucky battling to claim its eighth National Championship and first with Coach Calipari.

2012 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am »

Date: 16/02/2012

The 2012 AT&T Celebrity Pro-Am at Pebble Beach brought out the true superstars of golf, as Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods were paired together on the final day. Though Tiger teed up only four strokes off the lead, he ultimately proved toothless on this Sunday, prolonging two years of misery.  The roar was loud as he walked up the 18th fairway; a sound very familiar to Tiger…but sadly it was for his chief rival as he fell to Mickelson by an astounding 11 shots.

ISM’s clients had a wonderful week, beginning on Wednesday with a best-ball scramble at a local championship course.  The main event followed, with the PGA pros playing alongside their celebrity teammates.

Now we are just days away from the annual frenzy known as “March Madness”, culminating in the always exciting NCAA Final Four Championship. This year’s host city is the “Big Easy”, more commonly known as New Orleans.  ISM is looking forward to entertaining you and your guests in New Orleans and throughout the year at many other exciting venues!

93rd PGA Championship »

Date: 17/08/2011

The PGA Championship once again returned to the Atlanta Athletic Club, and once again the finishing holes provided great theater and a fantastic ending.  For the second year in a row a playoff finish was needed to decide who would capture the Wanamaker Trophy in 2011!  Rookie Keegan Bradley played like a savvy veteran down the stretch, posting birdies on three of his last six holes, including the playoff, to catch and surpass a free-falling Jason Dufner and earn his first Major Championship!  With the exhilarating finishes that we’ve had over the past few years, this year certainly being included, at the PGA Championship (Padraig Harrington knocking down an 18-foot par putt on the 72nd hole to defeat Sergio Garcia in 2008, Y.E. Yang shocking the world and Tiger Woods in 2009 at Hazeltine, and Dustin Johnson erasing his scorecard and his Wanamaker Trophy hopes while Martin Kaymer defeats Bubba Watson in a playoff at Whistling Straits last year), we can’t wait to see what Kiawah Island has in store for us next August!

ISM is proud to have been there with all of our clients along the entire way, and look forward to seeing many more in 2012!

The 2010 Masters Golf Tournament is in the books and we've learned a few things: 1) After almost half a year off and with tumult surrounding him, Tiger Woods is still dangerous on a golf course. 2) Phil Mickelson's third Green Jacket is a bit smaller than his previous two. 3) ISM's clients love being hosted from our convenient locale just outside the 9th Gate with easy parking on-site, quick course access, and fabulous hospitality from the time the gates open until after the last putt drops. Thanks to all who made this year great and we hope to see you at Augusta next year for the Masters!
