Complete fuel compliance for ECA and improving overall vessel energy efficiency
ACI’s 16th Vessel Efficiency and Fuel Management summit will be taking place in Houston, USA on the 21-22 June 2017.
With the recently enforced Emission Control Area (ECA) and fuel / sulphur regulations across the world as well as the Global Sulphur Cap of 2020 to be implemented, this conference will specifically focus on the regulations affecting vessel operations and companies in US Waters. We will further scrutinise the technologies available to assist with compliance as well as innovations to track and manage performance and specific fuel-efficiency improving equipment, plus analysis and practical feedback of how to increase overall efficiency and performance by minimising the fleet’s energy demands.
Essentially, the focus will be on how shipowners & the maritime industry can benefit from higher Return on Investment and optimise their performance with the latest vessel efficiency technology available. The two day event will bring together key industry stakeholders from the Maritime industry, including Shipowners, Shipmanagers and associated solution providers, fuel solutions, IT and data associations, consultants, and technology providers.

Trelleborg Marine Systems (TMS) UK is a world leading UK specialist company, developing and manufacturing specialised measurement, communications and safety systems to all sectors of the marine industry.
TMS UK was formed as SeaTechnik in 1999 by engineers who had been developing marine electronic systems since the mid-1980s. Early products included the pioneering Ship Performance Optimisation System which controlled propulsion for ferries on fixed routes, saving operators 6-10% annually on the cost of fuel.
Although fuel costs are currently rising only slowly, the key question occupying ship-owners, ship managers and charterers alike remains; “In a competitive market how do we reduce the running costs of the vessels we operate while maintaining the level of service to our customers?”
The TMS UK SPM system can be installed on any type of vessel from the conventional single slow speed main engine to a medium speed CPP or other propulsion system. It is designed as a cost-effective solution for the operator who is content with the base level savings and daily/voyage reporting for Ship Performance Monitoring.
Taking data inputs from fuel mass flow, shaft power, draught, trim, auxiliary machinery energy consumption and output, machinery configuration and water depth as well as manual estimates of hull fouling, fuel bunker quality etc, the system continuously calculates machinery and hull efficiency. These are compared with a baseline model reference. In this way random external parameters that affect efficiency reporting can be isolated so that the base vessel efficiency in operation can be maintained by adjustment of propulsion power, mode and controllable factors such as trim.
Being founded in 1982, Vimex has grown to become a leading market specialist in the marine industry – developing and manufacturing fuel monitoring equipment, high level and overfill alarm systems, gas warning systems, vapour alarm systems and calibration equipment for precision pressure and temperature measurements.
Our strength is to develop and manufacture equipment to the customer’s needs as well as complying with the latest requirements and regulations. We aim always to be ahead with flexible technical solutions and products that are easy to operate and that will help vessels reduce their emissions and running expenses. Our customers are our most compelling source of feedback. Vimex will always remain a trustworthy and dependable joint venture partner that provides reliable products and excellent service.
Development of our marine emission monitoring system started in 2007. Product development was carried out by Norsk Analyse AS in close cooperation with some of the leading scrubber manufacturers. Our first pilot system was installed on Bastø II and the first beta version on M/T Baru.
After years of testing and improvement, we launched the final product – ShipCEMS – in 2013. Lloyd’s Register approval according to MARPOL was received in November 2013. Global marketing of ShipCEMS is done today by our subsidiary company Vimex AS, in close relationship with our partners worldwide.
DNV GL is the world’s leading classification society and a recognized advisor for the maritime industry. We enhance safety, quality, energy efficiency and environmental performance of the global shipping industry – across all vessel types and offshore structures. We invest heavily in research and development to find solutions, together with the industry, that address strategic, operational or regulatory challenges.
DNV GL has developed the ECO Insight solution, the fastest way to effective fleet performance management. By making fleet performance visible and easy to understand, ECO Insight allows ship owners and operators to make informed decisions that can save fuel, cut emissions and lower operational costs. It has become the most widely used fleet performance management tool in the shipping industry today, and the latest update of ECO Insight include a mobile app and alert service. The solution also includes EU MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, Verification) compliant data collection and reporting.
ACI has put together a range of packages to suit your requirements. These range from branding options, to full scale partner solutions and can be tailored to meet your objectives and budgets.
