European Prefilled Syringes Summit 2017

Date: 6th September 2017 - 7th September 2017 Location: Berlin - Germany

After the success of our first European Prefilled Syringes Summit, we are pleased to announce the next edition which shall take place on the 6th & 7th September in Berlin, Germany.

The global market for pre-filled syringes will grow substantially over the next five years to reach sales of $6.6 billion, according to a new report from Smithers Rapra. With sales of $6.9 billion expected by 2018, syringes of this kind cater to an expanding patient demographic: people with chronic conditions who need, or prefer, to administer their own medicines. The race is on to improve the associated technologies, ensuring that the new generation of prefilled syringes can adequately accommodate tomorrow’s drugs.

Biopharmaceutical packaging is changing. As pharmaceutical manufacturers embrace more flexible processes that limit the risk of product contamination, packaging and containment systems are being designed to facilitate manufacturing of smaller product lots and batches. Some fill/finish operations are moving to fully enclosed, automated operation, requiring the use of not only nested syringes and closures, but also nested vials and caps, and manufacturers are working to standardize these components. Designers of primary packaging and delivery system components have had to change their approach to product development.

ACI’s European Prefilled Syringes Summit will explore the advancements in regulatory guidelines, product development, manufacturing processes, risk mitigation , portfolio management and answer some infinite industry questions such as; how the industry is responding to disruptive technology, connectivity, speed to market, and next generation syringes. . There are several elements that pose a severe challenge to the growth of the global prefilled syringes market, the primary one being the high costs associated with temperature controlled packaging required for temperature-sensitive drugs. Other more traditional factors inhibiting the market include product recalls due to breakages and leachables, the potential risk of interaction between prefilled syringes and drugs, and needle stick prevention.

STERISYS offers an outstanding solution portfolio in two different domains: industrial sterilisation equipment and the logistics and handling of pre-filled syringes.

STERISYS is a European market leader in industrial sterilisation with their leading technology and advanced solutions designed for medical devices producers and contract sterilisation organisations. STERISYS is not a mere manufacturer but a systems integrator supplying state-of-the-art turnkey solutions. Their holistic approach towards sterilisation systems is what differentiates them from other players in the industry.

In the industrial pharmaceutical sector, STERISYS develops, markets and supplies innovative logistics and handling solutions to resolve the problems encountered with handling, transfer and transport of nest-and-tub pre-fillable syringes along the different production stages.

STERISYS presents its robotised solutions which are easily implemented into existing or new production facilities. The robotised cells quickly and safely handle nested syringes, performing different operations: de-nesting or re-nesting, palletization or de-palletization, and tub dispensing onto conveyors.

The key for success is the use of specifically designed components to facilitate automation. The pallet becomes the main logistics unit in the factory used as carrier to directly receive, dispense and store nested products in tubs without manual handling.

The emergence of a player like STERISYS in the pre-filled syringes industry, in close cooperation with syringe manufacturers, drug manufacturers and equipment suppliers, is going to revolutionise the PFS handling and offer a world of new possibilities within this industry.
